The dream becomes a reality!

Latitude 35º South is a ‘dream come true’ for owners Bob and Karen Cybula, who both come from a farming background but have spent many years owning and operating countless supermarkets. With the sale of their last Perth store, they decided it was time for a sea change but what better place to settle then Denmark!

It all began in 1997, when 200 acres on Mt Shadforth, Denmark was purchased. No more than a cow and kangaroo paddock, it took a lot of work to get it into shape – it was all hands on deck to put every post in, string the wires and plant each vine by hand. Then in 2001, we had grapes to sell to neighbours who started winning awards, which made us think “Hang on a minute, why aren’t we making our own wine!”. So with our first vintage 2004, Latitude 35º South was born and we haven’t looked back.

Management of the vineyard is now the responsibility of Bob and Karen’s son, Matthew and his wife Tamara. Matthew studied as a chef in Perth and has taken on the challenge with relish!
